IN WHICH THE BLOGGER DIES!

thewizardandoswin:

Okay, for the life of me I can’t find it right now, but back when JLC was first announced as the next companion, Doctor Who magazine put out an article introducing her which included a transcript of the scene Moffat wrote specifically for auditions. Now, they were very clear that the script was not fram any upcoming episode, but that it had been written specifically to play out the full range of situations the actress would need to portray (funny, action-y, emotional, etc.)

HOWEVER. Just because it’s not from a particular episode doesn’t mean there would be no truth to the words. And like I said, for the life of me, I can’t find that article now. (It was called “Gonna Make You a Star” and it was in #446, but I can’t find the online scan that I read it from). But, I am an enormous nerd. And as an enormous nerd, when I had even a hint of a script that I hadn’t heard performed before, I had to try to perform it myself just to see what it was like. So I got out my voice recorder and I recorded myself acting out the new companion’s audition lines. It was lots of fun, but then I forgot about it. UNTIL, I just stumbled across the file. I don’t remember exactly what the Doctor’s lines were, but the companion’s lines that I recorded were this:

  • Companion: …oh, you are though. Under all that talking and leaping about. Takes one to know one.
  • Doctor: [???]
  • Companion: Yeah, in a way. Okay, why are you looking at me like that?
  • Doctor: [???]
  • Companion: Down, boy. I’m not her.

And then, I remembered. Even though I don’t remember exactly what it was, I remember the gist of the conversation. After “why are you looking at me like that,” the Doctor says something to the effect of “you remind me of someone I knew.” And then Companion says “I’m not her.”

Now, at the time, everyone was of course assuming that she reminded him of Amy. But knowing what we know now?

No. She reminds him of Oswin.

Now I know (and believe) Steven Moffat didn’t take the audition script from any actual episode, but I think that , knowing what he knew, it would be perfectly reasonable for him to insert a little story-arc into the audition script, and see how the candidates handle it.

So, a few assumptions we can make based on this knowledge:

  1. The companion is not post-asylum Oswin (unless something is affecting her memory). Either she is Oswin earlier in her timeline, or she is a different person link to Oswin in some way.
  2. The Doctor, despite not knowing what Oswin looks like, does have his suspicions about a connection before the plot reveals it to him.
  3. This isn’t set in stone, but given Moffat’s particular taste for irony, she probably is the same person (considering how she says she’s not).

If anyone can add an inference, please do so. Or even better, if anyone can add the Doctors’ lines, please PLEASE let me know what they are.

okay my theories for some of the ponds’ episodes of series 7 of doctor who is as follows

  • asylum of the daleks: amy and rory fight, the doctor just happens to stop by (or he hears about their troubles), and then brings the two of them along for an adventure, afterwards, there’s still a bit of tension between amy and rory after they go back home
  • dinosaurs on a spaceship: while rory’s dad is visiting, the doctor just shows up and takes everyone on a spaceship where important things are taken from history (dinosaurs, queen nefertiti, etc.) for some reason
  • a town called mercy: idk they meet marty mcfly or something
  • the power of three: it’s said to be an Earth invasion story that focuses on amy and rory. perhaps, since this is their next-to-last episode, they make up (or, at least, a bit of the problem is resolved)
  • the angels take manhattan: the trio and river meet up in new york, they come across some weeping angels, rory gets zapped back in time, and becomes a famous author (remember that book with a mysterious woman with a black hat on the cover that looks like river? hmm…). amy, river, and the doctor go to his grave in the present. amy decides that she really loves rory, so she touches the same angel to get sent to the time period rory was sent to. before she does that, however, she writes a note to the doctor (i think this was what the scene of matt crying while reading a note was)

i don’t know, these were just theories/ramblings. what do you guys think?
